BergHOFF Cookware Use & Care Guide
Proper care ensures your BergHOFF cookware performs beautifully for years. Follow these guidelines to maintain the quality, non-stick properties, and longevity of your investment.
The Golden Rules
Follow these essential guidelines to maximize the lifespan of your BergHOFF cookware
Let It Cool Down
Always let your BergHOFF cookware cool to room temperature before washing. Sudden temperature changes can cause warping and damage the non-stick coating, reducing its effectiveness over time.
Use Low to Medium Heat
BergHOFF's superior heat distribution means you don't need high heat. Medium heat is sufficient for most cooking. High heat can damage non-stick coatings and discolor stainless steel.
Use Proper Utensils
Use wooden, silicone, or nylon utensils with non-stick surfaces. Avoid metal utensils that can scratch the FernoGreen coating. For stainless steel pieces, metal utensils are safe to use.
Add Oil or Butter
Even with non-stick surfaces, adding a small amount of oil or butter enhances flavor and further protects the coating. It also helps maintain the non-stick properties over time.

Dishwasher vs. Hand Wash
The honest truth about cleaning your BergHOFF cookware
Hand Wash (Recommended)
While many BergHOFF products are labeled dishwasher-safe, hand washing is the best way to preserve the non-stick coating and extend the life of your cookware.
- Gentle on coatings: Preserves FernoGreen non-stick properties longer
- Prevents discoloration: Maintains the original appearance and finish
- Protects handles: Wooden and silicone handles last longer with hand washing
- Quick and easy: Most BergHOFF cookware cleans effortlessly with warm soapy water
How to hand wash: Use warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft sponge. Dry immediately with a soft towel to prevent water spots.
Dishwasher (Use Cautiously)
Many BergHOFF products can technically go in the dishwasher, but repeated cycles may reduce the lifespan and performance of your cookware.
- Harsh detergents: Can gradually break down non-stick coatings
- High temperatures: Intense heat cycles may affect coating integrity
- Abrasive action: Contact with other items can cause scratches and wear
- Handle damage: Wooden handles should never go in the dishwasher
If you must use a dishwasher: Place on the top rack, use a mild detergent, avoid high-heat drying cycles, and hand wash items with wooden components.
Is BergHOFF Dishwasher Safe?
Most BergHOFF cookware is labeled as dishwasher-safe, meaning it won't be damaged by a single cycle. However, for optimal longevity and performance, we strongly recommend hand washing. The FernoGreen non-stick coating and premium finishes will maintain their quality much longer with gentle hand care. Think of it as an investment in your cookware's future performance.
BergHOFF Induction Compatibility Guide
Which collections work best on induction cooktops
Induction Compatible
- Gem CollectionFull Disk Base technology ensures even heating on induction
- Leo CollectionMagnetic base optimized for induction efficiency
- Ron Collection (Cast Iron)Naturally induction-compatible due to iron content
- Essentials Stainless SteelMagnetic stainless steel base works on all cooktops
Induction Cooking Tips
- Match pan size to burner: For maximum efficiency, the pan base should match or slightly exceed the induction zone size
- Start with lower settings: Induction heats faster than traditional cooktops, so begin at medium-low power
- Center your cookware: Position pans in the center of the induction zone for optimal heat distribution
- Clean the cooktop surface: Keep both the induction surface and pan bottom clean for best results

How to Check Induction Compatibility
All BergHOFF induction-compatible cookware features a magnetic base. You can verify compatibility by placing a magnet on the bottom of the pan - if it sticks firmly, the cookware will work on induction cooktops. Look for the induction symbol on the packaging or product bottom.
Seasoning BergHOFF Cast Iron Cookware
Special care instructions for Ron Collection cast iron pieces
How to Season Your Cast Iron
Clean Thoroughly
Wash the cast iron with hot water and mild soap. Dry completely with a towel and place on low heat for 2-3 minutes to ensure all moisture evaporates.
Apply Oil
Use a paper towel to apply a thin, even layer of vegetable oil, flaxseed oil, or canola oil to the entire surface (inside, outside, and handle). Wipe away excess - the coating should look nearly dry.
Bake
Place the cookware upside down in an oven preheated to 450-500°F (230-260°C). Put aluminum foil on the bottom rack to catch drips. Bake for 1 hour.
Cool and Repeat
Turn off the oven and let the pan cool completely inside. For best results, repeat this process 2-3 times. The more you season, the better the non-stick properties.
Daily Maintenance
After each use, rinse with hot water (soap is okay for modern cast iron). Dry immediately and apply a light coat of oil while still warm.
Removing Rust
If rust appears, scrub with steel wool, wash, dry completely, and re-season. Prevention is key - always dry thoroughly after washing.
Improving Seasoning
Cook fatty foods like bacon or use oil when cooking. Each use builds up the seasoning layer, improving non-stick properties over time.
